Changing a Child Support Order
A child support order sets how much one parent pays the other for a child. It can be changed, but only going forward — a judge cannot change what was already owed for months that have passed.
Nevada works out child support with a formula. It uses the paying parent’s income, how many children there are, and how custody is shared. Nobody has to guess an amount.
You have a right to ask for your order to be looked at every three years, and you can ask sooner if something has changed. A change of 20 percent or more in income counts as something changing.
This interview will ask you questions to work out whether asking to change your order is the right step, and where to ask.
